This new technology helps prepare students for 21 st century jobs. Cheney Technical High School gives students the opportunity to enter high-paying careers upon graduation or continue their education at a two- or four-year university. Our students can select a career technical education program from a catalog of 10 different technologies. Highlights of our technology curriculum are the Diesel and Welding Technology shops, the only programs of its kind on the secondary level in the state of Connecticut. LEARN MOREExplore Our Programs Automotive Technology Students in the automotive technology program are given instruction in safety, tools and equipment, engine repair, electrical and electronic systems, brakes, steering and suspension, engine performance, air conditioning, and driveline service. Learn More Carpentry The Carpentry program is organized around the fabrication and construction of residential housing and related remodeling. Production work is an essential part of the carpentry trade program experience. Construction agreements are made with customers to build, renovate, remodel or extend structures. Learn More Culinary Arts Culinary Arts program students are trained in all phases of the food service industry. Students take the hands-on” approach with their training through the use of fully stocked and operational commercial kitchens to produce food in large quantities, as well as smaller scale kitchens that train students on casual and fine dining. Learn More Diesel and Heavy Duty Equipment Repair The Diesel and Heavy-Duty Equipment Repair program prepares students with instruction in safety, tools and equipment, engine repair, electrical and electronic systems, brakes, steering and suspension, hydraulics, and driveline service. Learn More Digital Media Digital Media students are introduced to basic concepts of video creation and production. Instruction is provided in Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Students are exposed to the basics of pre-production and post-production, as well as special effects creation. Learn More Electrical Electrical prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power, and DC and AC motors, controls and electrical distribution panels. Learn More Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program teaches construction safety, measuring and blueprint reading, calculations of ductwork and heating systems. Students are also instructed on domestic and commercial refrigeration systems, gas, and oil heating. Learn More Information Technology Students in the field of Information Technology are introduced to basic concepts of computer hardware and software. Instruction is provided in office productivity software, computer programming, web design and desktop publishing. Learn More Mechanical Design and Engineering Technology Mechanical design and engineering technology (MDET) students learn the design process, industry standards, and documenting design specifications through this project-based curriculum. Students advance using 3D solid modeling software for reverse engineering solutions of existing mechanical designs. Learn More Precision Machining Technology In Precision Machining Technology, students learn machine safety, measuring tools, and precision machining fundamentals using manual milling machines, lathes, and other metal processing machines. Students’ progress using computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining and turning centers. Learn More Welding and Metal Fabrication Welding and Metal Fabrication teaches the basics of safety and sanitation. A wide variety of common welding practices all taught by AWS-certified welding instructors. Students prepare and practice for national welding certification tests. Learn More Student Workforce Student Workforce Work-Based Learning (WBL) allows a student to work for an employer during their trade instructional time. Students not only receive credit toward their career technology, but also get paid. Off-Campus Construction Projects CTECS has the unique ability to complete construction jobs off-campus, on both residential homes and commercial properties. On-Campus Services We offer a wide range of services to the public at a fraction of the market price.
